Hand Brake Bodge

I thought I would share my latest bodge. My handbrake has always been poor, and when recently working on the rear hubs I found out why. The bracket the handbrake cable bolts to was corroded and part fractured. Operating the handbrake caused the bracket to twist and so the brake was hardly applied.I know a repair bracket is available from ESM (pictured), but fitting entails stripping the axle from the car. To avoid that for the moment I came up with a bracket made from some old sidecar fittings in my box of bits, and welded a tab to the top plate to take the cable. Handbrake now works a treat, but need to do the other side. Please excuse the greasy mess

There is an old post on here somewhere where someone had the same problem and made or purchased a suitable bracket that only required the axle lifting off its seat and the new bracket slipped into place - the axle lowered back onto its seat and all nuts tightened up and the job was done.
If I can find a link I will post on here.

Thanks Phil,
I did think of that , and I need to replace the bump stop so would do it then , but I wanted a nice thick bracket that wouldn't flex, mine is ~ 1/4 inch, and between spring and axle it would have dropped the car by that amount. Not a lot I know but I would always be aware
See if this link works:

I have bent the old tab up out of the way.

The picture has loaded ok.
Whilst it may do the job I would be looking for a long term solution.
1/4"..............you would never notice the difference

The site is having yet another tantrum on accepting images.

The place is falling down around us and the ERROR Message isn't exactly helpful either....
