Temperature gauge

Hello guys
Im planning to fit a temperature gauge for my 948.
Got this housing.. this comes with Electric sender. ( photo )
Can i use mechanical capillary smith gauge instead??

You can use the capillary type transmitter with the thermostat housing shown but you will more than likely need the adapter which fits between the transmitter and housing. Dependent upon the capillary tube used the adapter can be either male or female.

Hi, what type/size sender is direct fitment for this housing?

If you have the capillary tube type of sender already post a picture of the transmitter (the part that will screw into the thermostat housing) on here and I will try and identify the adapter you need.

I dont have the sender yet.
Im interested smith Dual mechanical . Description as, capillary with the original A2 Bulb, pressure connection is 1/8 NPT

The Smiths capillary tube can be either a male or female fitting so I would wait until you have the sender and then post on here a picture of the actual transmitter.

I havnt got any reply from seller. For now i found this online. Photo attached is two types they have. I need to get 5/8unf to use spacer for capillary . Right??
I think the gauge uses A2 ( will confirm again)

Those are the two types capillary tube ends. The one on the right has the adapter which is screwed into the cylinder head or thermostat housing first to enable the capillary tube to be attached.
The type on the right is the type fitted to my cylinder head.

The gauge im getting is A2 , means is 5/8 UNF . I believe thermostats housing is 5/8 UNF too. Therefore i should het spacer or extender??

Having fitted a capillary temp gauge on a 948 I would recommend fitting the sender with the electrical connections. I found the readings less accurate when compared to other people I spoke to who had fitted an electrical type sender.
Having said that, it is good to know the temp of the engine but as the minor is overcooled anyway if your cooling system is in good condition you should not have any issues. It does however depend on the climate you are operating in.

If you are getting the male A2 type you will not require the adapter as it should screw straight in.

Hai tricky, correct im living in HIGH humid Zone.
As my understanding, the mechanical reader, only work according to the heat generate within. Means i believe the needle only start move as the engine get warmer. Tq for the tips

Hi phil, i think the housing is 40mm and the capillary sender around 50mm .. im not very sure as i only get these numbers from online. I will get the spacer anyways. Its not expensive. I will fix if i required. Again, thanks for the comments and help.
Im going for only water temperate gauge. Not Dual
