Hello all thank you for accepting me and my newly received 1952 minor convertible. I firstly came to know this car back in the 90s as it was owned by my then employers and now very good friends. Fast forward 30yrs and they have trusted me with the minor and passed it on to me . It’s spent the majority of its life sat inside a workshop or in a garage under cover . So over the next couple of months I aim to recommission it leaving it in its working clothes for now . The only problem I have is the registration is now no longer found . They have said they are going to try to find the logbook for me . I do have the original registration plate . What will be the chances of keeping the plate on the car and also what are the costs involved in doing this ?
Many thanks for any help and I look forward to hearing from you and sharing my journey of the car along the way .

Welcome to the world of Morris Minors.

Someone will be along soon to answer your question about the registration.

Welcome to the world of Morris Minors. Whether you can retain the original registration will depend on what paperwork you have and whether the car was listed on the DVLA computer at some previous time. This was introduced in the late 1970s so if the car has been in use since then you should be in luck!
Best thing for now is the google "DirectGov car tax" and enter the car registration number when directed. If the car comes up as known, the you'll simply have to obtain a V5 registration document from the DVLA which will cost £25.00 I think. Again, google or similar should take you to the DVLA site where you can print this form off.

Be careful with the registration process and ensure you don't re-register the vehicle in error.
The DVLA are notorious for making simple mistakes that are not easily rectified.

When applying for a new V5 in your name, provide the most up to date information you have including the current owner, chassis number, Engine Number and if possible any old photographs you may have of the vehicle displaying the registration.
This gives the DVLA something to work with and not just someone applying for a registration in order to sell on for a great profit, or has someone already done that and that's why the vehicle was laid up?

As mentioned above search the .GOV website for taxing a vehicle online and enter the registration number it may have crossed over to the new system, if not then you may have to delve further.

Keep us updated.

Hi
I wouldn't get your hopes up. It will depend on how long ago it was last registered. Is it an active Reg No on the DVLA site?
https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/
There are cars on there that come up as 'Last Taxed 198*' but at least they are on the system.

If it comes up unknown, then without any original V5C/Log Book, you're extremely unlikely to get anywhere with the DVLA, and it will end up being issued with an 'age related' new registration.

I’ve been informed the logbook will be found and it was moted in the 70/80s . They have also said that they think the tax discs are there also . So fingers crossed. Is there any companies or specialists that have more luck dealing with DVLA rather than just myself ?

If it was on the road in the 1980s it would surely had had a V5 document. I'd wait and see what the owners come up with. ANY paperwork which links the registration number to the car will greatly help you.
Have you done the Directgov search of the reg number yet? or do you know for sure that doesn't work?
The club will help members recover original registration numbers but you should be able to by yourself if the car has been issued with a computer "logbook" V5 document in the past.

Hi there it comes up with nothing on there site and a number to call . I just wanted to gain as much info as possible before I call them to enquire . Once I’ve got all the info available to me I’ll update on exactly what I have . Many thanks .

I think sometimes cars which have been registered on the DVLA computer system can become dormant after years of disuse. Maybe this has happened to your car. If so, it should be much easier to get hold of a new V5 than if the car had never been put on the computer at all.
Best advice will still be to get hold of as much information, paperwork and old photographs as you possibly can from the previous owners before you make an application. Good luck with it!
