Front brake back plates

Post by Phil-tq »

Is there a difference in size between the early and late front back plates? If so, can anyone tell me the diameter of the later ones please.

8 inches - early ones are 7 inches. Of course that size actually refers to the internal diameter of the brake drums - but the backplates follow. Obviously the 8" brakes are FAR superior, and bolt straight on in place of early 7" parts. And Wolseley 1500 9" brakes also bolt straight on - and are even better again !

Be careful, the front brake back plates are handed and must be
fitted on the correct side, otherwise you finish up with 'trailing shoe'
instead of 'leading shoe' brakes!! i.e. lousy going forwards and
excellent in reverse!!
