Just been reading about James Hanratty and the A6 Murder which took place on the 23rd August 1961.
The car involved in the murder was a grey four door 1956 Morris Minor registration No: 847BHN.
Is the car still around or anyone know what happened to it?
Phil

Well it looks like the Registration either never made it to the DVLA Database when they transferred the Local Authority records in the late 60s, or it's subsequently been scrapped correctly.
It comes up as 'Not Found'.

Things may have been different back then but now if a vehicle is used in such a crime it is usually destroyed, to save the family of the deceased from ever seeing it again.

Much as Rillington Place was razed to the ground in 1978 to expunge the memories of the John Christie murders at number 10. I believe they originally tried to re-name the street Runton Close soon after Christie's arrest in 1953, but that was not enough to shake off the association with the grisly activities Christie performed there.

Yes indeed a lot of houses are demolished following major crimes such as you mentioned.

Here is a rather sobering look round the actual 10, Rillington Place filmed in 1960. Quite a slum but viewers may also be interested in the two Minors parked in the street - a short-bonnet MM convertible (seen around 6.00) and, near the beginning, one of those new-fangled 1000 motors! Is it YLU 778....or 773?
