Cup-type battery connector - drill post?

Just bought a new battery. My Minor has the old lead "helmet" or "cup" type negative clamp. Clamp has a hole in the top for a self-tapping screw to insert into the post, as on the old battery. But the new battery post doesn't have the necessary hole. Am I OK to drill a suitable hole in the post (not going too deep, of course :o ) ?

Yes but be careful and drill the same as the old battery hole......

It will depend on whether the profile of the post is suitable for the old 'Cup'.

I found this illustration on line of the different profiles available: https://uploads.bmw2002faq.com/monthly_ ... 546480.png

All being well, drilling it to just enough depth shouldn't destroy anything within.

Go a little at a time. I start drilling with the terminals fitted to ensure accuracy. Then use suitable self-tappers. These Lucas battery terminals are by far the best type made, just make sure to keep them well greased with petroleum jelly.

And don't lean on the other battery post when drilling the hole.
