Whilst working on my '65 2 door saloon today I came across yet another bodge whereby the rear damper link mounting has been butchered somewhat,well actually quite a lot, it appears to have been welded and a nut forced on, well on attempting to remove the badly damaged nut the pin sheared leaving me with just the stub exiting the box section.
Does anyone know if these mounts are available? I can't see them on the usual minor specialist websites.
As I doubt I'm the first to encounter this particular problem is there a solution or is it a case of cutting out the old mount and welding a new one in?

It's typical, the actual spring hanger and box section is solid on that side, whereas the other side is rotten.

Oh well at least I know it will be right once I've done.

It's the shock absorber top mounting that I have sheared, the spring mounts "seem" to be in good condition, but I have yet to get in from above and check, so that could be another story.

I've just been pondering, the stud which holds the damper bar is still in place its just the threaded end that has sheared off, would I be able to drill and tap the remaining stud to take a bolt?

I think the bolt is only there to stop the link bar from slipping off the stud so wouldn't really have any sideways movement, or would it?

I would imagine that a bolt and washer of suitable size and strength would be OK...

Alternatively, perhaps you could grind down a bit of the stub and weld a suitable bolt onto it, grinding the bolt head/weld so that it is of the same roundness/circumference as the stub.

I may give that a go rather than drilling the stud, thanks.

I havent measured exact size but the original nut is 3/8" BSF so a shouldered bolt from ebay would be fine eg 1/2"x 3/8 x 3/4 head and just grind the head off and cut it to the correct length....

The old one can be cut out neatly with a tube hole saw with the centre drill removed..

or have a custom one made for £9 plus pp from this seller in EN8 steel..order one 6" and threaded/shouldered both ends and you can cut in half and have two pins!
