Any advice please on the accepted finish on gearbox and back axle, as theyre aluminium should they be painted or polished up and some sort of laquer applied. TIA

You can finish them however you like, but what they did in the factory with the alloy parts was absolutely nothing

Hi,
I didn't think the back Axle Case was aluminium?? My two spare early ones certainly aren't, as they are both going rusty. I will have to do something about that, maybe......
My refurbished 1098 Axle Case is painted black, just like every other axle (in good condition) I have seen.

The rear axle diff carrier/nose is alloy but was never painted ex factory.

Thanks for responses. Alloy is the material, my lack of knowledge there. Maybe theyll get a coat of black when the time comes to fit them. Thanks again

The steel axle casing definitely needs painting. I had to replace one which had rusted right through where wet mud collected around the spring mounts.
