If you have the original Minor timing chain cover with the felt seal it is better to replace with the later timing chain cover with lip seal.

There is no need to replace the timing chain cove - the depth inside the cover is adequate with sufficient clearance for the duplex set up.

What you will need though is the flat oil thrower disk which is marked 'F' (Front).

You will also need to replace the two 1/4" UNF hexagon headed screws at the bottom of the front engine plate with two 1/4" UNF countersunk allen screws. The required angle of the countersink for 1/4" UNF screws is 82 degrees but a 90 degree countersink will suffice. Loctite the screws in place.

Make sure that the two sprockets are aligned by using a steel rule across the faces. Adjust the alignment by adding or subtracting shims from behind the crankshaft sprocket.

Also make sure that you have adequate fore and aft float of the camshaft 0.003" to 0.007" after fitting the camshaft sprocket.

It will fit in the standard cover, but you must countersink the two 1/4" UNF screws behind the crank sprocket that hold the front plate on.
If you want a tensioner, you will need to convert to the later timing cover with a bulge and do a couple of addition small mods.

I have just done this on my spare engine rebuild, with help from the other Phil with a drilling template etc.

Thanks Phil, the two screws were included in the ESM kit.
The flat thrower, that you attached a link for, is out of stock at Moss, however this was also included in the kit: Is this it, or does it have another purpose?
A seal for the cover is also included, so I shall have a look to see what type of cover is fitted, the engine is a later 948 though I don't know what year it's from.

Ignore that (pictured item in above post), I have found a parts list for the kit and it clearly isn't.
However I have found this on Charles Ware's site, which looks to be the right thing?

That is the right oil thrower disk.

The tagged washer in the photos above is the camshaft locking washer.
