how would you go about chroming only the cheese-grater part of the grill like so please?

Take it to an electro plater who does chrome ??

The car in the picture isn't a Series 11. It is an early MM which had a seperate grille, chrome plated on the earliest models. Later MMs and the Series 11s had the grille and front panel pressed in one piece and then spray painted, so unless you chrome plate the entire panel, you won't be able to achieve that look. The closest would be to spray the grille to contrast the panel - as was done on some cars. You could even use a "chrome spray" paint if you wished?

A chrome plater could mask the parts not wanting plating but it would be an expensive job

My sII had it's grill chrome plated by it's original owner, straight after he bought it, as he wanted the original look. The whole panel was removed, stripped of paint, and given the shiny metal finish. Then the 'grill' bit was taped off and the rest re-enamelled. When i got the car resprayed the chrome grill that was exposed for all those years had become a bit tatty, peeling and rusty, so i had the whole panel sprayed black, as it had been on it's leaving the plant. I must admit the chrome grill did look better - much more style.

Additionally the rest of the panel has not a sign of corrosion, and the original paint had held together particularly well. If you like i could look up the reciept to tell you what my car's owner paid for this to be done.

What an interesting story! Of course, in the 1950s plating shops existed all over the country. Now though, it is a very specialised and expensive process and you'll be shocked at the prices charged
