Traveller engine identification

Hello all,
Could anyone please help us identify the year of this engine: 10MAUH332918. The letters have been relatively easy to decipher, but not the numbers. I'm sure that it is not the original engine and am suspicious that some of the ancilliaries are not appropriate to this block, especially the distributor and carburettor. The unit is in a 1965 Traveller. Much appreciated. OJ

The Engine prefixes are correct for the 1098 high compression Minor
but dating is easier if you quote the entire chassis number. The
carb and distributor could well have been changed but the engine
type is correct.

It's certainly a 1098cc - year doesn't matter since nothing changed in all it's life.

bmcecosse - if you're doing it to concourse standard then it'd matter! The dizzy cap changed from side to top entry, I think, and the routing of the hot-water return from the heater altered, there were numerous small differences between my 1969 1098cc engine and Nikki's 196uh4ish one...

Thanks,
Is that the number on the plate on the bulkhead? I'm more used to minis which were supplied with many block, distributor, carb combinations over the years. Not sure whether the minors were as variable but i'd like to source the correct anilliaries for this engine. For example, are all the engines timed the same? thanks again, OJ

Aye. That's the number we're after. Or they're after, I'm not as up on specifics of any particular era
The basic engine and ancilleries of the 1098cc all, I think, stayed the same for it's production run. There are just minor (excuse the pun) tweaks here and there. Mind you, someone could have been along and stuck a bigger carb on it, or whatever...
They were, afik, all timed the same. Now, someone who knows something will I'm sure be along in a bit to correct me

The dizzy and the hoses are not the engine ! They are to do with the build date of the car - the engines never changed. And concours ! How sad !

Thanks for all your info everybody. The carb is from a Mini mk 1 or Wolsey 1500 acording to Burlen so will naturally get bits appropriate to that. Seems like everything else is as it should be. Thanks.

Well I doubt it will be mounted at the correct angle - unless the manifold is also from a Mini (and goodness knows with the Wolseley).

Well, that might be your opinion, but isn't it better to live and let live?
I don't do concours myself, but I know quite a few people who do, and they are some of the nicest people I have ever met!
Some people like the challenge of finding the right parts in good condition and restoring originality. What's wrong with that?? It's just as much of a challenge as chopping a minor about or bodging bits on...
