Oil pressure gauge

Traveller has oil pressure gauge working ok. On Speedo light not working,does this mean light is redundant because of gauge. And light only go on if filter is blocked.

Hi,
By the time the oil warning light comes on it is too late anyway!
An oil pressure gauge is a far better option.
Early cars (MM's and early Series 2s) had an oil pressure gauge as standard but in the later cars this was deleted and they had an oil warning light instead, a step backwards in my opinion, done for cheapness rather than for the customer.

Hello
Normally a oil pressure gauge is fitted in place of the original oil pressure sensor.
Originally the oil pressure sensor (which is at the left rear of the engine block) would measure the pressure in means of a sort of pressure switch and through electrical wires would operate the light on the speedo.
Usually a oil pressure gauge has an adapted fitting into the block where the original sensor was. This has a tube coming from it which goes directly to the rear of the oil pressure gauge itself in the car. The pressure sensor is actually inside the gauge itself.
So the light on the gauge is most likely now not operational.
The original light would come on when the oil pressure dropped below a certain pressure the sensor was set to switch at thus making an electrical circuit powering the warning light in the speedo.
A gauge is however by far the best option.

You can get a 24psi oil pressure switch from minispares they give a better indication at idle of what is happening but an oil gauge is the best.
