can anyone tell me if the fuel pump will come on when the ignition is on or do you have to pull the start button to start the pump.its a 1953 s11 803CC

Pump is switched on with ignition switch. You should hear it start ticking when you turn the key.

You could try the old trick of giving the pump a gentle ( gentle ) tap with the ignition switched on . That may start it ticking , however it probably needs servicing or replacing !

Can you check you have voltage supply to it ?

Take the line off the fuel pump that leads to the carb. Put a rag to cover the opening. Turn on ignition for two seconds then off, and the rag should be soaked in fuel if the pump is good.

Rather than using a rag, it would be better to use a clean, dry and empty bottle - conventional wisdom says it should pump about a pint of fuel a minute. Then you can pour the fuel back in the tank afterwards
If the pump is not working, it may just need the points cleaning or replacing. When a pump stops working it is usually the points which are the culprit.

tried hitting it with hammer .only joking tapping it still nothing cant test for power .because im useless.getting someone to look at it on saturday

I think getting someone to look at it for you is the best option for you.

Just hope he/she does have some idea.

john from jd tunning in south shields come to have a look at brenda today .took wires or here and there cleaned terminals checked coil .removed points tried to fit new points wrong ones sent .cleaned old points checked for spark .checked wires with some sort of meter.took fuel pump of stripped and cleaned it .put it back together and it was ticking like a bomb so i was very happy .done something with the carb ,fitted new fuel pipe to carb from pump.looked at me and smiled and said its ready to try.i had already changed the oil and filter and cleaned the fuel tank and lines .switched on ignition pulled choke out ,and pulled the start button could not believe it it started straight away first pull pushed choke in but cut out pulled choke out again and started straight away put choke halfway in for a little time until warm .then pushed right in and ran like a sewing machine .to me that is incredible as it has not been started for 45 years ,just need the clutch sorting out now as i think it is stuck on ,and brakes doing then good to go i hope.

i would also like to say that man is a genius at what he does with so much passion and dedication thanks john
ps any idea how to release the clutch without stripping it down

To release the clutch - get the engine warm - let the heat permeate into the flywheel - engage gear - depress the clutch and rock the car forward and backwards and if you are lucky the clutch will free.
If you are brave - get the engine warm - let the heat permeate into the flywheel - engage gear with the handbrake on - depress the clutch - engage the starter motor and if you are lucky the clutch will free. Make sure that there is nothing in front of the car.

Is it stuck or just not being operated?

Method with tractors could include a long chain and a robust tree!

clutch still stuck on someone coming to have a look at it for me and do some other jobs so hopefully will be ready to go soon

Bad luck.

Unfortunately it looks as if you will have to separate the engine and gearbox and take the clutch apart.

It may seem to be excessive but in the long term it may be a blessing as rusty clutch plates do not last long.
