Starter handle guide tube

I have seen on a few cars that there is a little tube that’s bolted to the radiator shroud and pointing inwards towards the lower pulley and the starter dog. Having looked at old and new shrouds, they all have the two bolt holes for said handle guide but I haven’t seen a handle guide tube in a list of spares.

Was the an original feature on all the cars that has been taken off in the course of time or simply a hang over from earlier versions ?

I’ve forgotten to say, I have seen one on a turquoise low light version that’s being restored by a fellow member. But I’ve attached a photo with the guide tube highlighted

The part you require is part No: AAA3901 Guide starting handle.

Was fitted as standard on commercial vehicles but was discontinued from Com (vehicle number) 44801.

Listed in BMC spares list AKD559.

In the back of my mind is a thought that at one point it was an optional extra.
