Hi All
Just fitted new front brake shoes and cylinders, but with the adjuster screwed right up the shoes don't touch the drums. Is this down to worn brake adjusters?

Did the shoes touch the drums before everything was changed? If so you can put the old shoes back on and if they touch then you have the wrong size shoes, if they still don't touch, then you have the wrong size cylinders. Or worst case scenario, they are both the wrong size!

Not sure that they did, the shoes had very little wear, only changed them because of fluid leaked onto them. I'll check the sizes again.

Regretfully many pattern parts are not to origional dimensions, and the issue of brake adjustment has come up before. If you find that your parts are nopt quite correct then return them to the supplier and insist on the top quality original spec items.

you say adjuster do you mean adjusters there's two on the front its possible that the old ones were 8 inch and the replacements are 7inch,just run a tape round the old and new to check.

Are the brake drums worn?

Don't know, but would have expected a deep groove. However I have riveted a 3mm piece of steel onto the underside of the adjusters, which seems to have sorted it for now, and I will try to identify the problem for the future.

hmmm... they may stay in position on the cylinders, a safer way, is to put a stroke of weld with a mig onto the end of the brake shoe to make it longer,and file to profile, but maybe no mig good luck.
