Hi, I was just fitting an alternator to my traveller and I found this thing under the car. I assume it's come off the car but I'm not certain. Any idea what it is?

It's a clip used to hold the plug in on the rear of the alternator.

afternoon James,
I'd hazard a guess that that as you're working on the alternator, its the clip off the rear of the alternator that holds the electrical plug in place. The two hook ends locate in two individual lugs (or maybe slots) on the end of the alternator and then hang down so you can get the electrical connector plug in. With the plug plugged in, you can then swing the clip round so it stops the plug coming out again.

I've had a quick browse and cant find the right picture of the right alternator but the one I've attached give a reasonable idea of what I'm trying to describe.

Best wishes, Colin.

Thank you! I thought it seemed a bit too clean to have come off the car! I suppose it must have been caught up with the wire or something and dropped without me noticing.

Hopefully the alternator lives up to my expectations. I'm a bit tired of having to bump start my car on winter mornings!
