Does anyone know if the exhaust system on a traveller is the same as on a saloon? We are going to break the trav for spares from the middle of june, to raise money to buy another...

Yes, as far as I'm aware, the Trav and saloon have the same exhaust.

Most spares companies list saloon/traveller/convertible as the same exhaust.

But you need to add a short extension piece (stainless if possible) to get it to 'blow' clear of the rear body.

Matt / Dan - why don't you just take the roof from a scrap traveller? You'd only have to weld-up the bottoms of the A-posts, then refit the screen... oh and make sure the car is supported under the sills when the roof is off.(or is it because of the other jobs on the car too)

I would agree with Doobry - it should be quite possible to obtain replacement panels from a scrap traveller for not much money? Usually a scruffy but reliable car in full running order is worth making an effort for and any traveller with a full MOT is worth having. This of course assumes the car has got a reasonably sound floorpan and decent wood.

I was looking on-line and a full traveller wood set doesnt look too expencive.

I was debating buying a new set of wood for my traveller as the top of the front uprights is starting to go soft. You are not that far away from me if you want a hand undoing bolts etc. I have no idea how to weld though.

This of course assumes the car has got a reasonably sound floorpan and decent wood.

Thats the problem.... the whole bottom of the car is completely rotton, the chassis legs are bent and plated, the floorpan has patches on patches on patches etc... the rear spring hangers are a bit iffy, the jacking point bits have gone..... it really needs a full resto

Surely it can't be THAT bad as it had an MoT last year........

A floorpan section is not THAT expensive. I thought it only needed one chassis leg and you can get crossmember ends & jacking points easily enough!!

Its not just the money cam, there is another car in the garage which I need to paint before it can go outside (and that still needs a lot of welding) we need another car while its off the road, and we need to get the money from somewhere. (especially as the replacement has to be a convertable - orders of my mother). And Cam, it is as bad as that! for all the previous MOTs while we have had the car we have had to spend £3-400 on welding, or spend 2 weekends doing it ourselves.

If we had the time and space to fix it up properly we would, but we don't! (also our welder has died, DOH!)

Well........ if you have to get rid of it, then (if you can) make sure it goes to someone who will repair and not break it.

Umm we are going to break it, we really need the money..... basically there is no spare cash to get a replacment so what we can spen on another car we have to get from that one

If you're breaking it, I'd be interested in the shell 'cab' section and front end, if it's not completely rotten - condition of floor and chassis legs immaterial!

It's the shell cab section that has caused it's untimely demise (roof no longer attached to the A posts kind of thing)

Oh well - worth an ask...
