Anyone know what size (external diameter) the standard exhaust pipe end is on a saloon/trav?

Whats left of my TIMAX is about 1 1/4" OD

Looks like it's about 10 years old ,one piece, and has taken some serious jiggling to get into engine bay but does seal OK and doesn't have any holes. I've seen Timax before but can't think who flogs em, must be Slow/Wrong Fit or ATS or someone like that. When Funds allow must replace it with something Stainless

Oh and while we're on the subject, does anyone know the internal diameter of a chrome tail pipe finisher of a suitable size for the standard Minor exhaust system?

Bigger than 1 1/4"

Mines a pretty tight fit so I'd say probably only 1/16th or so more

Depends how it attaches. Mines only got one screw so would tend to leave all of the 10mm excess to one side. But if you could even out the excess then might not be too bad, but not sure If MOT man might argue. Won't look great but should stop funny noises

Just measured using vernier caliper - metric - tailpipe o/d 32.00mm diameter, finisher i/d 32.56mm diameter. I'd suggest that 41mm is going to be a bit sloppy Cam.

There have been some of the correct size on eBay recently Cam. The "curved" end type. They sold for a little more than Minor parts suppliers though.
I've found, with those I've used, the "curved" type are a bit tighter fit than the "straight" type.

Yes, I really like the look of the curved ones. So I'm assuming that they come in certain size 'steps'. Now that I know for sure that 41mm is too large, is the Minor one 33mm?

I'll keep an eye on eBay....... but failing that, I'll look in the local motor factors (you never know) and if not then I'll order one from a Moggy specialist!

Is the end profile the same as yours? or does yours come over further?

Cam, it was a curved finisher that I measured at 32.56mm i/d so give or take a few 1/100mm 33mm is near enough - just as long as it's more than 32mm.

Both my cars have the straight trim (noisier?) and the curved one I have was bought a while ago and never used(made by a company called Saunders). It does have more of a curve with the cut off at the bent end being more or less horizontal. Pic to follow.

Sorry Cam, no, don't know of any other sources of these other than MM parts suppliers. I'm sure I had one of this type from ESM some time ago which was more like the one in my pic. Might be worth asking them. I personally don't like the shape of that one in their picture.
No Onne it's chromium plated, looks to be good quality too. Don't think I've ever seen one in stainless, mine have all corroded eventually.

When I was young I used to advise people to get one atleast 5mm bigger than the pipe - this way it makes it very hard for the MOT man to stick his hand over the end building up 10 to 20 PSI - to check for leaks (as it would leak aroung the trim piece and therefore small leaks could go un-noticed).
These day's I'm far too honest/sensible for that kind of thing.

Cam - I've dug out an old curved trim which you are welcome to I'll bring on Sunday if i make it. The curved end cut off is at an angle somewhere between the two as pictured in this thread. It's like new but with a trace of Copaslip internally.
It was used for only a short time but I reverted back to the straight type which I prefer but only because of the more resonant and louder "fart."
