What was the revelation at Webbs back in Aug 2019 that you failed to share?

Count me in for a book but not holding my breath just yet!!

Just need some idea of how many to print.

Upon printing out a proof copy, found it SO confusing, have had to separate by varient.

As some of you may know, my Dad going through the wars atm, so please be patient!

You can count me in for one

If it were me I would print ten copies first then print further sets based on firm orders..

We are all looking forward to this coming together as we have all contributed.. though you have done all the hard work!

Tell me about it!!!😫😭

Now looks likely we'll have to produce a separate LCV booklet.

Probably a good idea to separate the variants, I think people would prefer to have data just for their particular model. Possibly sell more that way as well, plus the models you’ve completed can be sent out now, rather than waiting for every variant to be finalised before being available. Bet you’re glad it’s coming to a close, I know from past posts you’ve been at it for many years. Keep us posted Chris. ——-well done!

Non LCV varient fairly easy, but LCVs VERY difficult as half my time spent requesting details from owners.
Tbh, don't learn anything from a chassis number, reason why all other Minor club's STILL plod along with 30yr old info which was wrong EVEN as much as 60yrs ago!

The data you have collected over the years must be astounding! Why not ready what you now have and sell to interested parties. You’ve more or less proved this info quest could go on forever. After distribution any future info that does crop up, could be in the form of a supplement. What do you reckon?

Working on 1953-1962 CKD LCV "blocks" atm, challenge in itself!!

Loads of help from Russ with this.

PLEASE keep those details coming in, the more we have, the more accurate the book will be.

Chris, your last post makes no reference to my earlier suggestions, you may not agree with them, and that’s fair enough, as I recognise it’s your project but it would be nice to hear your views. If you wait until you have every detail of every Minor ever produced, I for one won’t be here anymore :o ——— but I might come back to haunt you!! :D

Sadly Les Chris very rarely answers a question (see my question back in Aug 19) just replies with another question. What I have found over the years no matter what info you give him its always wrong as (his is always right), been waiting for 6 months to return NZ info I sent he informed me what I sent was wrong but he has amended it but it never comes back. on this thread July last year Chris was choosing photos for the book...…...…..

No matter how much info he has it will never be enough and always wants more, we will never see the book, thats for sure

Sorry to be blunt but thats I how see it

Well I hope we do see the book, the fact that Chris asked for people that want a copy to let him know, would suggest he’s ready to go. Although admittedly, the recent request for more data rather puts that in doubt. Sadly in one post, a couple of months ago he felt it was time to hang up his coat, as he put it, so we’re getting confusing messages.

My thoughts are - publish now and add any additional information as supplements.

The use of supplements is very common in technical publications.

In my experience once a technical booklet is published it becomes out of date very quickly.

Publish and be dammed. :D :D

Yes - but on something that's been out of production for fifty years?

I hope so too Les but this isn't the first time we've been asked to express an interest is it :-? ..... This has been going on for years now.
As Phil says, such books are never really completed, so you have to publish what you have and offer supplements/updates later :)
Otherwise those of us who supplied information to Chris years ago will wonder why they bothered.

It is surprising what pops up even after 50 years.
For example - my own house is over 250 years old and I thought I knew quite a bit about it. I have a photo of the front of the house dated around 1920 and I could not make out what the black vertical thing was in the background behind the barn. Never gave it a further thought until a few years back when I was given a photo of the house from a different angle and the black vertical thing turned out to be the chimney of a stationary engine that drove all the woodworking machinery inside the barn. No one locally knew about the steam engine so that was a pleasant surprise.
So never be surprised what is out there.

Phil
