Had a nice day at Kelmarsh today but because I found oil in the coolant I came in the Stag instead. When I got home I removed the cylinder head. Strange though, at first glance I can't see an obvious fail in the old gasket (i'll have a thorough check tomorrow) . Any ideas why not? I'm planning an unleaded head anyway so the work isn't wasted.

What was the condition of the head gasket in the area of the oil transfer passage at the front N/S of the head/block?

pretty much OK I think Phil, no obvious breaches. I did notice head released easier towards the front than back.
