Bonnet release mechanism

I bought my Minor as a part complete project which I'm building back to complete. Yesterday I was putting the bonnet release mechanism back together, but I can't work out where the anti rattle spring on the long rod which goes into the car fixes. I can attach it to the rod, but I can't see anything to fasten it to on the car. Could anyone help please?

The car has had welding on the inner wings, so it may have been removed on the old metal.

Once I can attach it, how much tension does it need?

Thanks, yes it does.

What does the spring hook into under the wing though? My car doesn't have anything, although I guess I can make a suitable sized hole in the inner wing.

It's a small hole in the top of the front panel, close to the bolts that secure the panel.

Phil,

I didn't know either so I took some pictures this morning. The inner end is connected to a little metal tag which can be moved up and down the bonnet release bar to adjust the tension in the spring (which doesn't need that much tension) - and the other end goes through a little hole in the top left corner of the radiator front cover panel right next to the bolts as shown on the second photo. I'm no expert on this so I hope that this is correct.

That is correct. I think you would call it "crude but effective"!

I've never had a spring, am I missing out? The bonnet seems to release okay without the spring :o

The spring isn't to aid bonnet opening but to stop the long connecting rod from vibrating.

Thanks Keith, The tab and the hole are there, I will order a spring the next time I order anything from the usual suppliers.

Sorry, work got in the way of looking on here.

Thanks for the 2nd photo, just what I needed. I'd dismissed that hole as being for something I'd not fitted yet as my car has no wings or front panel fitted and there's a matching hole on the other side. I'll connect it all up when I get chance.

Thanks again,

Phil
