A few weeks back in a thread relating to the seized studs of a side valve engine I mentioned the use of stud release cutters.

At the time I could not remember the name of the manufacturer.

Visiting the Atwell Wilson Motor Museum at Calne last week what did I find in a display case - a set of stud release cutter of the type I had referred to.

Here is the item:-

Whilst labelled as for aluminium with care they can be used on cast iron heads.

The Atwell Wilson Motor Museum is well worth a visit.

Very useful for that purpose.

For interest - APKOWAY was the name of the Sykes - Pickavant works located in Bow St, Birmingham.

Many of the Sykes - Pickavant specialist tools were originally listed as APKOWAY.

An update on this:-

I was searching 'e' bay as you do and there was a APKOWAY De-corroder tool No: 206 being offered for sale - so I snapped it up and it arrived to day. Whilst not perfect - it is useable and came in its own special Pickavant wooden box and includes the original instruction leaflet.
It may get me out of a hole in the future.

It recommends using a soap less detergent such as 'Stergene' and not cutting fluid.
