Door window channel

I've had new rubber-backed felt channel fitted to a front door of my Traveller. The trouble is they don't completely fill the metal channel so there is a draught and the window rattles. Does the stainless steel door top require a different type of felt channel?

Hi Angie,
From my limited experience they are always a bit on the short side but your window should not rattle. I always fit them from the top of the channel which leaves a small gap at the bottom. If you ever find that one is missing, check inside the bottom of the door before you order a new one.

Thank you Ian, but it's not the length of the channel that's the problem. The material seems too thin or something, it just doesn't 'fill' the groove in the stainless steel frame. This means that the window can contact the frame. When I bought it there was no mention of different types of channel, and neither is it referred to in any catalogues that I've seen.

I've just fitted a s/steel door top with these - no problems at all re. length, they extend down into the door, and I'm deligted with the transformation to the draughts and noise. I never realised how loud the rattle of the windows was till it stopped. From (guess where) Charlie Ware's in Bath, BTW

G'day Angie,
The window rubbers from many '80's Japanese cars fit and fill the stainless steel window channels well. They have a second fold which holds the glass away from curved edge of the the stainless steel frame.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply.
I suspect then that the channel I bought was simply an inferior type so I shall try one of the other options - the rattling is driving me mad. The only way I can stop it is to wind the window up very tightly, not an ideal solution with summer now with us!

I had rattling windows at the front of my trav and fixed this with a long term "bodge". Go to a diy store and get a roll of 4mm sticky backed foam. Its the stuff that is used to stop drafts around door frames and secondary double glazing.
A length of this worked a treat at stopping the "Traveller window rattle". Yes, its a bodge, but lasted several years and did the job well
