In my case the problem of a non-functioning lock was due to a badly rusted lock bolt
I had to clean up the barrel with a brass bristle brush to remove the muck. I then had to punch out the rusted lock bolt (gently) The lock bolt had to be cleaned up (using a wire brush and any other slightly abrasive medium).
The cleaned up lock bolt was then replaced in the assembly - see part 3
Next, punch out the barrel retaining pin
With the key in the lock, winkle out the barrel
Gunged up barrel now out
At this point you can replace the barrel with another to match up key sets or, in this case, proceed to repair the problem.I had to clean up the barrel with a brass bristle brush to remove the muck.
