Engine number interpretation

My 1968 saloon came with no history. I've Googled its engine no: 10V / 189E / H8818, and it appears to originate from a van with closed circuit breathing (it has a pipe from tappet chest cover to air cleaner, no breather outlet in rocker cover). Other listed van engine numbers state "low compression", but on the lists I've found mine doesn't. Could this mean, by default, that it's high compression? It certainly feels as spritely as previous Minors I've owned.

The engine number quoted above has a 'H' contained in the number so it appears to be a High Compression engine.

Not all commercial engines were low compression.
