Juddering 1st & reverse

I have a 1964 morris traveller and i am getting bad shudders in 1st & reverse gears. Can anybody suggest what might be causing this?

Worn rear springs, loose U-bolts, dead rubber bushes or engine'gearbox mounts rotten?

Firstly check the condition of the engine steady bar/rubbers/mounting points and the engine mount rubbers.

Although generally seen as a security measure, the rear cable securing the gearbox to the crossmember, when slack or broken causes judder.

If the gearbox steady cable is broken/slack or any of the three bolts have come adrift increase the size of the three bolts to 5/16" x 18 TPI UNC. A 6.9mm tapping drill is required.
The 1/4" x 28 TPI UNF bolts fitted into the aluminium casing of the gearbox are not man enough to do the job and were only used by BMC as they were already in place. The cable was not originally fitted and its fitment was a retro mod.
