I recently put my traveller in for a nearside suspension arm replacement (king pin, bottom and top trunnion) at a morris specialist. However, halfway home, when heading straight down an A road, I noticed that the steering wheel was off by about 10degrees to the left to keep the car straight.

It's back in the garage now, but they initially said they didn't touch the wheel, but I'm wondering if it's possible for them to have adjusted the steering arm on the trunnion when replacing, thereby putting the tracking out and causing the off centre wheel?

Is this possible? If so, i'll need to make sure they didn't just move the steering wheel round as I assume my front tyres will be toast in short order!

If the swivels (not king pin - which is a completely different thing) have been assembled correctly and they have not moved the steering wheel - the off set of the steering wheel can be adjusted by turning the end of the steering rack to track rod end shaft by half a turn - one side in and the other side half a turn out according to the way you want the steering wheel to go.

Has your swivel got two holes for the steering arm? If it has the steering arm should be in the bottom hole. The upper hole is for the Wolseley and Riley 1500s. If in the wrong hole it can throw the steering wheel alignment out.

There is no facility to adjust the steering arm - it is a fixed forged item with no flexibility.

If they have reset the suspension height that can also throw the steering wheel out of alignment.

A photo of the current suspension set up would not go amiss.

Well I got the car back from the garage and all seems fine. Will put some pictures up to check as soon as it stops raining, which appears to be unlikely recently!

thev'e probably removed and replaced the track rod end,If I was you I would take it to a tyre depot and ask them to check the tracking,,just incase.Or keep and eye on the tyre wear.
