Breakdown cover suggestions

Hi
Does anyone have breakdown cover for their Minors?
I hope to travel to Ireland in the new year in mine and would like the peace of mind of having breakdown cover behind me.
A lot of the companies I have looked at only cover vehicles up to 6 years old.
Any suggestions?

My breakdown cover is done through the main insurance policy with Adrian Flux. And I have to say it works very well indeed.

Dont ask me how I know :D

RAC have always covered Minors. The MMOC used ot be an associated club (might stiill be). The Club insurance scheme through Footman James provides breakdown cover which is provided by RAC.

Most companies include a free breakdown cover within your policy :)

It sounds like you may have been looking at the mainstream car insurance companies for a quote.
This is not the way to go with a Minor, you need to look at the specialist companies that deal with classic cars as their core business.

There are quite a few to choose from including Adrian Flux, Footman James, Richardson & Hosken etc.
Adrian Flux gave me the best quote this time so I went with them, but I had been with R & H for many years with my Austin 7, they do not cover vehicles for an agreed value unless they are stored in a garage, hence my change to AF who will offer that. Footman James are promoted by the MMOC, but I found they were a lot dearer for my circumstances.

Make sure you get a few quotes from different companies though.

As a younger man I covered over 60000 miles in my Minor with no breakdown cover. Plenty of tools and routine spares in the boot though. The only major breakdown I ever had was less than a mile from home. As I'm much older and much less fit, I'd definitely get cover now,

To be honest I have only had breakdown cover on my motorbikes but as I grow older the excitement of wondering if I'm going to break down is growing rather thin.😊
