hi
I just got a set of steel wheel 5 inch wide
what would the best tyre width for them?
165/70 or 175/65 ??

Be careful regarding the wheel offset, the tyres can get close to the top trunnions. That will dictate your tyre size.

they are standard wheels which have been widened

If the banding has been done on the outside of the rim centres, it figures that when fitted, the distance between the rim centre and inner edge is standard, this being the case, 165 tyres should clear the trunnions but will be close.
I'm sure some members here have fitted this size tyre, maybe they might comment.
