Nutrition information.

Going really off topic (maybe even a bit of a rant)...

I'm supposed to be on a fairly closely controlled diet... low fat, low salt, low carbs, low sugar.

I'm rather partial to a nice Lamb Moussaka now and then. Way too much hassle to make and frankly, cheaper to buy from a supermarket ready made.

Most supermarkets stock it in their 'posh food' range (Taste the Difference / The Best / Finest etc.) Checking the small print on one such product I was shocked to read that it contained 102% of the recommended daily fat intake and 65% RDA salt. Similar weight product from another supermarket chain contains 64% RDA fat and 30% RDA salt. Still too much, but for a treat I can put up with it!

Several years ago I made a long term life style decision to reduce the amount of sat fats, salt and sugar in line with the NHS recommendations. (I'm 47)

To be honest, I found, buying anything in a packet is going to blow any of those limits. If you make your own without adding any salt and using lean meat you can live within them.

The body doesn't need that much food to function, it's surprising how quickly you will hit your maximum allowance if you hit the Hobnobs!

Good luck. :D

Since heart surgery I watch the ingredients. Quorn is good and versatile and has the added bonus of much increased flatulence. Makes one sound more like a Morris Minor on occasion.

What I dislike about Quorn is their confused branding message....
They're happy to call their Mince, just 'Mince', but I have a real issue over their pretend chicken.

if there's no meat in it, how on earth is it a Chicken Nugget, Slice, Pieces etc.
Why is it not described as Quorn White Fibrous material?
How come trading standards hasn't hauled them in for this?

They're lying to me as a consumer. There's no Chicken in their chicken products.... or is there?

It's vegetarian chicken, so by definition it can't be chicken of the meat variety. Now if it just said chicken, that would be another matter.

As it says on the packet MEAT FREE .Beef cattle do eat grass but also injected with steroids and enhacers which transfers to the blood and ends up on your plate .Watch a Halal slaughter on youtube that would probably put you off meat for life

But there's no such thing as 'Meat Free Chicken...'
That's all I'm saying..... why doesn't Trading standards have them?
https://www.gov.uk/food-labelling-and-packaging

To sell food and drink products, the label must be:
clear and easy to read
permanent
easy to understand
easily visible
not misleading

It's telling me it's Chicken, but it isn't; ergo it's Misleading!

I daresay you are the only one finding it misleading.
Everyone knows all Quorn products are meat free, vegetarian meals and labelled as such. Any reference to chicken or any other meat, is simply to indicate its the Quorn equivalent in flavour. However you're at liberty to inform trading standards, let us know how you get on. :D

I have been veggie for quite a long time and the best i have found for flavour and texture is Linda McCartneys Mozzarella burgers and if you can find a Home Bargains place they are £1 for 2 burgers.
