Right turn only.

I have just fitted a very clean nearly new indicator stalk and although it works indicating right, when you flick to the left it gives one flash and then nothing. Bulbs and thier contacts have been checked.
Any ideas?

one flash then nothing usually means a poor earth on one of the bulb holders (it's certainly worth a look and quick to check - although can take longer to fix)

Ray (anyone!) does the indicator on a post '63 light unit earth via the fixing screws?

Peetee,

(teaching granny to suck eggs) - have you checked all the connectors? If one isn't good then you'll get the high resistance problem.

Oh heavens, it reminds me of Sid James in Carry on Cabby (?) - " (name) will have to carry on turning right only - his left indicator's gone"

(cue for Cam's picture library)

And obviously check the bulbs. When one of my indicator bulbs goes I get that symptom (although last time it went because the bulb had rusted away....).

only if they aren't rusty and also if there isn't a thick layer of paint under them.
To check the earth you can use a voltmeter from the base unit to a good ground, or just ground it with a length of wire and see if it makes any difference.

My last 4-door had exactly that problem (it had fibreglass wings). I spent ages making up a new earth lead for the front sidelight/indicator only to find that the original was fine and it was the fixing point on the inner wing that was the cause
