preliminary wiring for motor start up

Gday all. Ive got a new 948cc motor in my 1948 Morris 8 E series (say what?
you say) And wiring to me is like Greek to a Chinaman. I intend to have the car fully wired by a auto electrician. But before I get to that stage ,Id like to start the engine for the first time.
Now yes Ive got a manual, but then I go back to my original Greek statement
.
So basically Ive kept the car positive earth.
So is it
Positive to earth
Negative to starter (using only to turn engine over)
Positive of coil to Dist
Negative of coil to negative of battery
Is that right or have I got something DONT SWEAR OR YOU WILL BE BANNED about face
Please bare with me here as I started with a blank canvas. Mechanically Im ok. Wiring Im not, if I havent seen it in place in the first place.
Cheers
Craig
