Fuel problem

Post by Stevearniepalmer »

Been having problems with my newish bought Morris.
Its had a new fuel pump and ignition coil recently and returned from garage yesterday. On the way home driven by garage the speedo packed up .Then today i got in to start her up and fuel is coming out of the pipe that goes from the fuel pump to the carburetor!!.The pipe was replaced and there is a new jubilee style clip on it.I turn the screw but its still pouring fuel.Any advice would be much appreciated.

Which end of the pipe is the fuel leaking from - the pump end or the carb end?

I think the pipe to which you refer is braided and has, or should have, two rubber sleeves, one each end. Being a relatively small diameter, jubilee clips are not ideal as they don't pull up perfectly around the pipe. You can get single band clips which are better for that application.

I agree with Les that Jubilie clips are not suitable for use with the small diameter fuel pipe as they do not keep cylindrical when tightened.
You do need the correct size clip and one that has a rolled edge so as not to cut into the fuel hose.
Here is a link to a suitable type of fuel pipe clip:-

Sorry for not replying last night. The fuel is coming from the carb end.I took the pipe off and put it back again and reattached the jubilee clip but its still doing it.

My pleasure. I've had smart-phones for about 8 years now and I've only just learned how to copy and paste links on it, so I do at every available opportunity! :D :D

UPDATE
Garage came back today and it turns out the problem was the end of the needle in the float chamber had broken off and was stuck in the on position so it was calling for fuel all the time.
Garage sorted out that problem but another one popped up as a result.
Indicator stalk light now stays on all the time .Indicators still flash outside.Light goes off when ignition off.
This happened when garage were sorting out reconditioned speedo. In the process of changing it a fuse blew.
Garage man coming back with new fuel guage as it shorted.
Wiring loom looks like the original .
Audrey is not giving up without a fight.
Any suggestions

Most likely culprit is a faulty flasher unit. I would try that first.
