door hanging woes

I spend 10 hours yesterday trying to hang a door on my 1968 2 door (thank god its not a 4 door!)a further 2 hours to fit the other 1 which went on with relative ease. It seems the problem is the door frame/window channel - i cannot get it to sit low enough and it doesnt seem to bow out enough at the top to clear the upper door frame on the car- it is a stanless one from a traveller - are these a different shape or something?the other side as I say fits quite well. Is it a case of bending it into shape?any other door alignment tips gratefully received!

Yes, if the actual(metal) door is correctly aligned with the body
but the window frame is not then the only thing you can do
is bend the frame to fit, (with the window lowered)! I assume that
you had the nuts loose, in the door frame, which locate the window
channels before you tried to finalize the fit?? If the top of the
window frame is hitting the body before the door is shut then
you insert a piece of wood or similar between the offending
places and 'persuade' them by trying to shut the door.

excellent - cheers. I will attack them with renewed vigour asap. I did undo all the bolts etc - looks like some dubious bending in order - I didnt have the strength after yesterdays marathon effort!

I had the same problem with ours, both the painted frames and the chrome ones hit in the top front corner and stuck out at the back, a combination of tweaking with blocks of wood and moving around on the mounting holes (I vaguely remember opening a couple of the holes in the door up a little) got it to a reasonable fix.
You also do need to adjust them with the seals fitted.

Jeese - 18 years on. I wonder whether the door ever did hang correctly...

He’s probably still fiddling with it, these things take time ! ———I’m sure he’ll let us know when it fits
