Hi everyone
I’ve had a mad idea of putting beetle (mid 60s) 1200 rear lights on my 2 door minor to replace the pitted chrome nasty old ones, anyone done this before, the look very similar in shape of wing

A friend had 1303 lights on his 56, fitted OK but didn't look right IMHO

I think that the only advantage is that the vw chrome is better quality. Well,it is on my beetle, seems to be indestructible.

Surely the VW lights mentioned are painted aren't they? I've seen them on a number of Minors and think they look quite in keeping. Wiring them should be reasonably straightforward although the wiring colours will be different of course.

Mine are body coloured with a chrome trim. Original as far as I can tell,certainly old. The chrome is very good quality. It's a 1300 beetle though and may have had a bit more bling on it than the 1200.

Here in Australia, we never had the later (post '62) light units incorporating the flashing amber indicators. It is very common here for VW Beetle rear light units to be substituted for the originals. This was done primarily to provide modern flashing indicators to replace the semaphore indicators. I fitted them to one of my Minors as far back as the late 60s. They do fit the shape of the rear wings quite well.

I agree with ManyMinors that they look quite harmonious with the Minor's styling.

Has anyone got any pictures of spacing and best place on wing to drill holes and locate

Out of curiosity I swapped the back lights on the beetle and Morris (just using a bit of blue tack, to gain an impression)
Got to say the beetle lights are better on the Morris than vice Versa!
Back on the proper cars now and they both breathed a big sigh of relief...
