One has 145/70/14 on a 3-inch rim. The other is 175/70/14 on a 5-inch rim. Guess which is which.

Not a fan of either - especially with those high cut wings which though original to me do not look right - it is as though some one has raised the body in relation to the axle.
The later lower wings look more aesthetic.
As it is a guessing game I will go for the rusty rim.

Agree about the wings, they don't look right, I'll go for the other rim

. Whichever it is, is it a banded rim?

The wider one is on the good wheel?
That arch gap looks enormous? Just been out to measure mine and it is 3 5/8 inches between tyre top and wing flange. (through wheel centreline)
My tyres are 175 14, so are a bit 'tubbier'

Meant to say what a lovely finish under the arches!

175 on the cleaner wheel. I agree with other comments.

Yeah, those high cut wings never look right to me, either. It doesn't help that this is the first ever set of BM springs that HAVEN'T settled. Even with 2 teenagers in the back it doesn't look great.

The original MM springs used 7 leaves of 7/32 in thickness, when I bought my replacements many years ago all that was available was 7 leaves of 1/4 in thick.
This gave a very hard and unforgiving ride, enough for me to remove the bottom leaf, still with a hard ride I removed the second leaf - I now only have a 5 leaf setup!
Seems to work ok.

These are 5-leak M1000 ones. Wish I had saved up for some Rossendale ones or maybe just used a couple of leaves from this one and made a hybrid up.

New car is even better.
Tyres not quite so good, though.

Could you not have found a larger stone to act as a sprag.
