Original finish in the boot

Hello everyone
I am restoring (to original spec as far as pos) a mid 1962 948cc series 3 two door saloon. I notice in Ray's bible regarding a paint job on a 1962 saloon that he mentions - when all the fittings are back in the boot, the exposed wheel arches were painted black.
Some restored cars seem to have a boot finish the same colour as the body, others have been painted out completely black.
Has anyone got any comments please? I know the wood floor should be matt black. If the exposed rear wings were painted black what about the other parts that can be seen? Has anyone got an original car of that period or any knowledge to help my search please?
cheers

Hi Leyland,

You may get a better response over on the concours forum area, or perhaps by contacting Ray Newell. He knows a lot about originality :0

If you are trying to reproduce the original finish to any minor interior floorpan including the boot, try stoneguard applied by spraygun, it gives the original 'ripple' effect that can then be oversprayed with body colour. Also has the advantage of reducing noise.

As far as I'm aware, the rear inner wings should be painted black and NOT body colour. I too have seen a few 'restored' cars that have them painted body colour, but they should be painted black. Both my saloons (1952 and 1969) have those areas painted black.

The bar that separates the two boot boards should be body colour and so should pretty much everywhere else really. Only the boot boards and the inner wings should be painted black - or so I've been lead to believe......
