Hello,

LH indicators are fine: flashing as it should and I can hear it ticking.

But RH - the rear light flashes very fast; the front not at all. And no ticking sound - sometimes an initial tick, but otherwise nothing.

I have, I think, checked everything is connected to the flasher unit as it should be, though I can't trace exactly where each of the three wires go.

Can anybody help, please? Do I just need to fit a new flasher unit?

Take all the connections off the flasher unit and when the switch is operated all will light up. This will show if it is a wiring or flasher unit fault.

I know this is simple and probably been the first thing you've checked, but your symptoms may also be caused by a blown or loose front bulb, or corroded bulb holder/earth. All simpler to check before delving into the wiring. Does the warning lamp flash fast too?

The rapid flashing is the classic symptom of a blown bulb, in this case the RH front one. I would check that first.

It cannot be a faulty flasher unit if one side is working correctly. The fault will be in the light which isn't working - either blown bulb as above (swap it with the other side to test the bulb) or a poor connection possibly due to corrosion. Those front lights DO suffer from this and so do the bullet wiring connections under the bonnet. Just a process of elimination. A simple circuit tester of some sort is SO useful - you can make one easily with a bulbholder, two wires and crocodile clips - which will tell you how far the electrical current is getting.

I didn't think that could affect the rear bulb's flashing - but then I know very little about this sort of thing.

All cars of all ages are pretty much the same. A blown indicator bulb will cause the remaining 'good' bulb or bulbs on the same side to either flash very rapidly, or just light up but not flash. Depends on type of flasher unit fitted.
