Hello all.
I've been asked to help change a clutch and gearbox on a 2 door 1967 model and as the front of the car is all off I have suggested getting the whole engine/box out to do the job. Questions:
Does the gearbox cross member and remote have be removed or can the lot come out in one go.
Does the engine mount towers have to be removed to get the complete engine/gearbox out.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The procedure is detailed very welll in the various manuals, but in a nutshell....

Very easy to remove gearbox and engine as one unit if the front of the car is already off.
Soak engine tower securing bolts in penetrating fluid.
Drain gearbox oil, otherwise it drips out of the rear.
Remove propshaft.
Remove gearbox cover (some argue this is not necessary, but I find that it makes life easier.) You may have to remove a seat to get good access.
Remove gearstick.
Disconnect everything you can, including the clutch linkage
Remove gearbox cover
Remove bolts that hold front left mounting tower to floor.
Remove buts that hold engine to front right hand mounting.
Supporting the engine and gearbox, remove the gearbox cross member.
Lift engine and box forwards. tilting as necessary to clear the front cross member.

Thanks for that Simmitc. I wondered if there was a way without removing the gearbox cross-member as I have heard the stories about the captive nuts turning and having to remove the brake master to rectify the problem, the simple job becoming deeper and deeper.
