Smaller steering wheel

I would like to fit a slightly smaller steering wheel (knees get in the way).

Lots to choose from, but ideally I want something that looks like the original wheel, retains the boss, horn push etc. Nothing against sporty wheels, but they're not for me. I prefer "stealth" modifications.

The nuclear option is to cut down an original wheel, weld up the metal work and coat in resin. But it would be great if there was an easy drop-in solution from another Morris or BMC model. Someone suggested Riley Elf, but have not found anything to confirm or refute that yet.

Any ideas or comments?

I think the original Mini wheel is smaller but looks very similar to the Minor one.

Usually one or two on Ebay

I have an Austin steering wheel,it is about 1"smaller than standard Minor but does not have horn push facility and has AUSTIN on the centre bar.I think ther is a classic mini wheel on fleabay at the moment.. Have you considered moving the drivers seat backwards to give a better seating position/leg room?

When thinking of modifying a wheel, what year is the car - are you looking for a "banjo string" wheel or the later all plastic one? From the talk of welding, I'm guessing that it's the early one; but just make sure that you're looking fro the correct type of wheel for what you want to do. I'd be very wary of modifying either type - they are safety critical.

Thanks guys.

It’s a 67 traveller so not a banjo.

Gone as far as I can on the seat ( I’m 6ft 4).

Not too worried about the heavier steering. I’m strong enough to handle it when parking and it’s a trade off against uncomfortable legs on long drives.

I can weld well enough to produce a 100% safe wheel, but it’s a pain if a ready made alternative is available.

Anyone got a mini wheel they can measure? Same boss and horn push?
