1098 engine, 948 gearbox....

I’m just assembling a 948 box with 803 change to the 1098 engine of my 54 series 2. Using the thinner pressed steel engine backplate the bolts will be too long in their blind holes. Suppliers only list one type of bolt so I shall have to either cut off the bolts or fit additional washers under their heads. Washers would be simpler but of course I don’t want to risk fouling the flywheel.
Has anyone done this lately, ahd how please? I guess washers are no problem for the plate to gearbox bolts as there is more clearance.
