Risking grandmothers & eggs, this is for newbies. Very inexpensive & easy way to remove rust from small items is to use Soda Crystals, water & battery charger. I have used this many times & it also removes paint (Practical Classics 2008). Follow link http://antique-engines.com/electrol.asp. Once item de-rusted, the longer left submerged the better, it should be cleaned & treated asap or it will begin to form a rust coating.
