Hi could someone please advice what type and size of thread does the bonnet latch pin . (pic) has?

My problem being, the bonnet is still quite open when the pin thread is fully tightened in.

Please note that I'm not sure it is the same pin the car had before restoration cause some parts went missing and it could be it comes from another car.

I intend to increae the thread on the pin so that the bonnet would close in tighter

Any suggestions welcome!

It's probably a bsf thread, measure the diameter then you'll have it. I can't remember if there is any adjustment on the bonnet fitting, might be worth looking.

Hard to tell without a scale but it looks longer than mine are. Is it definitely off a minor?

so maybe its not even from a minor :/ are they usually shorter then?

It looks to be the right length. For comparison:-

The early pins were 3/8" BSF Pt No: AAA1865, the later pins were 3/8" UNF Pt No: 14A6586. The later pins are available from MOSS.
Measure the dia and the number of thread tips per inch to confirm which you have. The 3/8" BSF thread has 20TPI

That catch bottom face does look worn and it may be best to replace the pin.

just for the records, the bonnet was not closing properly because the bonnet latch spring was fully compressed and was hindering any further adjustment of the bonnet closure.

for the 2nd time (in 3 restorations) i had to cut a couple of turns off the spring !!

I have to say that I would be looking elsewhere for the cause of the problem as regards the coil bound springs.
Having removed and fitted several bonnets and front panels over the years I do not think that all of the blame can be placed on the spring.

what is the correct clearance for the bonnet when closed? mine is now less than 1 cm

I will check and come back to you soonest.
I cannot compare exactly with my Minor as currently have a one piece fiberglass front fitted.
When the original Minor bonnet was fitted it rested without any real compression of the two bonnet support rubber buffers http://www.morrisminorspares.com/body-i ... nt-p827991 which have tops standing 3cmm above the inner wing. The inner edge of the wing was also nicely matched to the bonnet profile.
There is the ability to adjust the fit/position of the cross member supporting the bonnet catch as it has elongated holes
The inner wings and all other body panels on my Minor are as they left the factory and have not been replaced.

Thank you for posting the picture of your two Minor restorations. They look very good.
Comparing the relationship between the chrome strip on top of the grill panel and the front bottom edge of the bonnet with images of other Morris Minors the gap you have (as displayed in the photo above) between the two appears to be very small to near non existent
I will look and measure a friends Minor and see what the gap / spring length is and come back to you. It may be a few days though.

Here is a photo of Patt Moss's Minor - See how the bonnet fits with a parallel gap between chrome strip and bottom of the bonnet.

this is what I got at so far.... bonnet bottom edge not parallel to chrome strip but I guess thats not too hard to get with some tweaking... any ideas comments welcome!

Definably out of true as shown in your picture above.
You could try slackening of the front panel and adjusting the cross member that the bonnet catch is supported by as it does have slotted holes for purpose of getting it right. Then once that is satisfactory adjust the fit of the front panel and chrome strip.

If it looks right it will be right.
