Hi all,

I hope there is someone here who can help me out. I have to make a scale model for someone for which I got this picture send to me.
But what is the text that must come on the door?
CWT LBS and then? Unladen Weight? and the rest?

And here’s a picture of a similar Singapore vehicle of the period. The lettering seems to show the unladen weight in cwt and lbs. can’t quite read the line below. Anyone have a good guess?

Probably imagining it, but after hours of staring, I think the bottom line may be kerb weight.

Very possible.

We need one of those imaginary image enhancers from the movies. I’ve already tried a couple of real ones, but not much help.

The lines I think are fairly clear as

Weight Unladen
Max Wt. Laden
Axle ?....

Possibly second line is the same as your photo?

Do let us know what you decide and post a picture of the finished model. Are you a professional model maker?

Looks like "Axle Weight" to me(?)

Yep, I did find the Anchor Beer too, but of that one I can't also read the sign.
Professional, professional... I don't want to take that much credit. I see myself as an amateur. I have been a wine merchant for nearly 30 years, but I had to close shop due to the crisis. I always collected model scale cars, but the lack of some models forced me to make them myself. And since the delivery of the Cointreau Unic for Mr. Alfred Cointreau it went rapid. Nowadays I have a waiting list of 1 year and a half.....

Here's a rough design I made in order for Grand Marnier....

In regard of your comments... I will wing it with them lines but can anyone throw me some numbers?
I can't imagine the unladen weight is 84.... Unless he's made out of cardboard.... Hahaha

Looks more like "MAX WT LADEN" to me, first letter looks more like an "M" than a "K" plus KERBWEIGHT looks too short.

Isn't Unladen weight & kerbweight the same thing(?), or is it to express one in cwts & other fully in lbs(?).

They DO vary too, between 803cc AND 948cc models, although ONLY 14 or 15cwts. Mighty confusing at times.

If I understand correctly, unladen = weight of complete vehicle unladen and empty of fuel and 'other consumable fluids'. Kerb weight = weight of complete vehicle unladen but with fuel and other consumable fluids all filled to maximum levels as per manufacturer's recommendation.

Also, in the UK at least, until the speed limit restrictions were revised (1958???) HGVs and buses had to carry the wording 'Max speed 30mph' on the body exterior, usually beneath the unladen weight wording. I think light commercials were subject to the same speed restrictions, but possibly only if no passenger seat was specified. I don't think the Max Speed wording was required as, for example, I've never noticed it on a Minor GPO van, even in period photos.

I agree.
