Hello - I expect Phil or someone with similar knowledge will be able to help.
I want to fix the passenger seat a bit further back, but the bolts won't screw through the appropriate holes in the floor because they are 'crudded up'. I'm thinking the holes need going over with a tap but not sure what size or type.............

5/16" x 22 TPI BSF. 2nd cut.
If you have to purchase - get a High Speed Steel (HSS) version as the Carbon Steel (CS) is prone to breakage.
A Supplier I can recommend is Tracy Tools Ltd

If they are new(ish) seat mount plates they could well be M8 as mine are, although as you say they are crudded up they are more than likely be old and 5/16.

I should have said - the car is a 1955 SII. The floor pan is original - I seriously doubt the mount plates have ever been replaced. So I'll go with 5/16........
