Whilst waiting acquisition of a nos 1098 clutch plate does the spigot bearing need a small amount of lubrication or does it self lubricate? Thanks, John

I think they are, or at least used to be oilite bushes, which were impregnated so self lubricating. You can tell by looking for a black almost light speckled appearance. However oil anyway.

You are right in that the spigot bush should be an iolite bush and the bush material is as you describe above.
If fitting a new iolite bush I would soak it in SAE 30 engine oil overnight to absorb the maximum lubricant.
Once fitted the oilite bush should not require further lubrication but a smear of SAE 30 engine oil will not go amiss.
