I have had an NOS temp gauge stored away for many years .. never used...It's a Smiths F Fahrenheit one.
I've read several of the possibilities here but would appreciate some additional advice on the 803cc motor.
What are the best options. I understand that there is no tapping anywhere on the 803 to fit a sender - correct?.
What about the aftermarket inline adapter in a radiator hose type system? Anyone done this successfully?.
I suspect this wouldnt work with my Smiths though....could my Smiths pictured be made use of at all ?
Would appreciate any input.

Of course it can be made to work. You can use a radiator hose adapter or a thermostat housing with a tapping point. The first thing you should look at is obtaining the right sender unit and work from there. You will also more than likely need a voltage stabilizer for that gauge as they run on a regulated 10V supply.
The standard temperature sender for Smiths instruments is GTR 101 or Intermotor part no. 5271. It has a 5/8" UNF thread. The resistance is 800ohms @20°c and 50ohms @90°C-There's plenty on ebay e.g
