I got a 6ft tree in Max... artificial... 3 sections... 2ft long box... across the back seat... no trouble... no needles

Easier in a convertible - you place trunk in rear foot well and just stand it up. With hood down and a warm coat on obviously!

Back in the Seventies when I had the duty, I brought them home with my two door. Up to twelve feet they went in the boot, but the fourteen footer had to go on the roof. These trees did not go through those netting machines. I remember using the boot lid as a strut so the twine could hold the top of the tree off the ground. Didn't have much trouble with needles, but then I just cut the tree.
