948 to 1098 gearbox

Can anyone advise which engine backplate I need to use to fit a ribbed 1098 gearbox to my 948 block. I have the thicker 1098 back plate and I also have the pressed metal backplate from the 948 engine. Can anyone help?? the plates are interchangable, but one is substantially thicker than the other......
I'm primarily concerned about the gearbox input shaft fouling in the back of the crank (hope that makes sense). I have done a mock up on the work bench, and I have sorted the clutch and release mechanism quite ok, but the input shafts are quite different from each other, apart from having the same splines.
regards, Peter

As far as I know the blocks are the same - so the difference must be in the gearbox - maybe the extra thickness is to move the box back that wee bit to clear the bigger flywheel ? So I suggest you use the plate intended for that gearbox - ie the thick one !

Thankyou; that was my thinking too. I was hoping some one out there had already attempted this.
