2nd mechanical fuel pump of a 948cc damaged

Dear mates,
My Milly's new heart still doesn't beat as it should. This thread is about her fuel pump, I need your help, please:
She's got a "new" engine this summer. The old one had a mechanical fuel pump, I transplanted to the new one. Where it broke quickly. I thought it was my fault by installing it on the wrong point of the crankshaft. I was very careful with the second one, rotated the crankshaft manually until the arm of the pump had no resistance.
That worked fine for round about ten minutes, then the engine stopped. The pump didn't pump any more and looked like this:

It seems, I need an electrical fuel pump. Where do I install that one?
Thanks,
Frank

Maybe the installed camshaft hasn't got the required profile needed for a mechanical pump.

How can I know?

Look through the hole and see what the pump lever is making contact with.

I did not think that the Minor ordinarily had a mechanical fuel pump and this may therefore be an Austin Engine (as you say it is a replacement) which at least in the early days did have mechanical pumps.

That link makes me wonder. Milly's old engine had a mechanical pump originally. My further 1960-two-door-saloon (sniff) had such one too. I think, I could install an electric pump instead. Is that right? And when: Where do I install it?

The engine number suggests its a Gold Seal factory recon. I have one in Max but the prefix is 8G9 R J, and I have an electric pump. I wouldn't like to guess if your engine is actually intended for a Minor. It may well have been supplied for an Austin A35 or an early Sprite.
I ask respectfully: is there a possibility that you're installing the pump completely wrong? The operating arm should press against the side of the camshaft nearest the hole in the block. The damage to yours makes me wonder if you've fitted it with the arm hooked under the camshaft...?
As far as I know all Minors originally had electric fuel pumps. The correct place for it is on the bulkhead, on the carburettor side of engine bay. You'll probably have the holes there to guide you anyway.

Most mechanical fuel pumps fitted to the 'A' Series have a spacer between the fuel pump and the block - did you install the spacer?

A spacer! I've never seen one, never heared about that. Thanks for that idea! I will not risk an investition in another mechanical fuel pump. I really meant "thanks!"
